Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Toolkettle counts your text inside your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How is reading time worked out?
It assumes an average reading speed of 238 words a minute and rounds up to the next whole minute.
Does it count words in other languages?
Yes. It uses your browser's own rules for finding words, so it works for most languages, including ones written without spaces.
How are emoji counted?
Each emoji counts as one character, even one made of several parts, such as a thumbs-up with a skin tone.
Is there a limit on how much text I can count?
It is tested with up to 5 MB of text, which is several hundred thousand words. Longer text may slow your browser down.
